Triumph Through Tragedy

This Good Friday and Easter have felt “off.”  We can’t meet in person, we can’t celebrate together. It is a reminder of how important relationships are and in-person worship is.  It’s a reminder that Christians are not called to live out their faith in isolation but as a body of believers.

But maybe it’s good that this Easter feels “off.”  Maybe we need a reminder of what’s important, what’s vital, what’s of first priority.  Maybe feeling “off” is a good way for God to get our attention!

The disciples certainly felt “off” that first Easter. They were hiding in the upper room, afraid the Romans were coming for them next. They felt off because Jesus was dead!  He’d been crucified! All their hopes and dreams of him being the Messiah had been smashed!   But maybe their hopes and dreams about him being the Messiah needed to be smashed?  Maybe their expectations had to be dashed so that they could see the real Messiah Jesus!
