We see broken people becoming whole, through the love of Christ. To build a community in which to belong, grow and serve. To love our neighbours by helping them overcome spiritual and physical needs. To contribute to Spirit-filled transformation in the city of Guelph.
Over 40 years ago, Star Wars burst onto the scene, revolutionizing how movies are made and marketed. That first movie has a powerful opening scene. First, the music hits you with a note of triumph as the title fills the screen. Then the story’s context rolls up the scene, introducing some of the characters in the narrative so far. The first actual “scene” in the movie is of Princess Leia’s Rebel cruiser flying across the screen, being pursued and shot at by an enormous Imperial Star Destroyer. The little Rebel ship is dwarfed by the huge Star Destroyer and is quickly captured and boarded.
The opening of the movie is tremendous. At once, the viewer is dropped into a cosmic battle, epic in scope and scale. We are keenly aware that we are joining the story in the middle of a much broader narrative. Who are these “Rebels”? Who is Darth Vader? What are the plans the Rebels have stolen? The viewer is left to piece together the background of the story, even as the story unfolds before them.
