We see broken people becoming whole, through the love of Christ. To build a community in which to belong, grow and serve. To love our neighbours by helping them overcome spiritual and physical needs. To contribute to Spirit-filled transformation in the city of Guelph.
For the past 8 weeks, we’ve been working our way through the Gospel of Mark, one chapter at a time. Each week, I preach on one passage in our next chapter and over the course of the week that follows, your homework has been to reach the whole chapter. I hope you’ve been keeping up with your homework, but if not, it’s certainly not too late. Mark is a very fast paced book and the chapters are short. If you’ve fallen behind, it shouldn’t take you too long to catch up!
One of the reasons we’ve been taking this approach to Mark is that it gives us a big picture view of Jesus’ ministry. It also gives us a big picture view of how Mark has put together his Gospel as a whole. Typically, when we read the Bible, we read little snippets taken from here or there. Now, however, we are reading the entire book and seeing how those little snippets fit together into a larger tapestry. Today we will see one of the large story arcs within Mark’s Gospel and see how some of the teachings of Jesus at the beginning of this arc are displayed in the events that follow. Our big story arc begins in Mark 4.
